Most couples are surprised when they see their first floral proposal, and I get it—flowers look effortless in photos, but behind the scenes, there’s so much more that goes into creating those lush, breathtaking designs.

As a floral designer here in Pittsburgh, my goal is to pull back the curtain and help you understand where your investment goes. That way, you can feel confident (and excited!) about your floral budget.

✨Why Do Wedding Flowers Cost More Than Grocery Store Bouquets?

This is one of my most-asked questions. Here’s the truth: wedding florals are about soooo much more than just the blooms themselves.

Quality & sourcing: I source premium flowers—often imported or seasonal—that arrive days before your wedding and need to be processed, hydrated, and cared for so they look perfect on the big day. 

Artistry & design: It takes lots of practice (and plenty of floral mechanics tricks!) to create arrangements that look luxurious, cohesive, and camera-ready.

Labor & time: Behind every bouquet or arch are hours of designing, building, setting up, and sometimes even climbing ladders to hang an installation.

Extras you don’t think about: Mechanics, vessels, ribbon, candles, delivery vans, refrigeration, assistants, clean-up crews… all of these pieces ensure your flowers look magical and last all night.

Think of it this way: when you invest in wedding florals, you’re investing in an entire experience, not just “flowers in a vase.”

✨What You Can Expect to Spend

Every wedding is unique, but here are some average ranges that couples in Pittsburgh, PA typically see. Note, this will change from floral designer to floral designer and many will work with your budget. Find someone you trust are excited to work with!

Bridal bouquet: $250–$400+ (IMO, this is the most important piece you can invest in - think of all of the pictures you are going to take with these)

Bridesmaid bouquets: $85–$150 each

Boutonnieres: $20–$40 each

Corsages: $35–$55 each

Centerpieces: $100–$350 each (low) | $300–$600+ (large/luxe)

Sweetheart tables/ mantles / floor arrangements: $200-$700+ depending on the size & complexity of the design.

Ceremony arches/arbors/lush staircases: $2,000–$6,000+ depending on the complexity of the design.

Statement installations (hanging florals, chandeliers, etc.): $3,000–$15,000+ depending on the complexity of the design.

On average, couples invest 10–15% of their overall wedding budget into florals. For many, that’s anywhere from $3,000 to $10,000+, depending on vision and guest count.

✨ Wedding Budget Levels: Breaking It Down 

To give you an idea of how far different budgets stretch:

  • $3,000–$4,000 (Modest weddings)
    Personal florals (bouquets, boutonnieres) + simple centerpieces. (You can do some really creative things in this budget range if you are having a micro wedding!)

  • $5,000–$8,000 (Mid-range weddings)
    Personal florals, full guest table décor, ceremony pieces, and one focal installation.

  • $10,000+ (Luxury weddings)
    Personal florals, statement arches, lush tablescapes, large-scale installations, and full design team support for a true “wow” factor.

✨Tips for Making the Most of Your Floral Budget

Pro tip: Flowers always look best when they’re given room to shine. Instead of spreading your budget too thin, focus on the areas that will make the biggest impact.

  • Repurpose ceremony florals at your reception (think arch pieces moved to the sweetheart table).

  • Prioritize focal points: the head table, bar, or entryway. (I LOVE this tip & a good bar moment)

  • Stay open to seasonal blooms—they’re fresher and often more cost-effective. Its VERY hard to try to find a peony when they are not in season!
